RRC Stage 7 Nizhny Novgorod 2012

Qualification results in the Touring class were promising an interesting challenge. First position of the starting grid was occupied by Nikolay Karamyshev, followed by LUKOIL RACING team LADA drivers – Mikhail Kozlovskiy and Alexey Dudukalo. Alexander Frolov started fourth this time. Everybody expected to see some aggressive actions from the Touring class leader, but instead of it the leading role was played by Alexey Dudukalo. Veteran of the world Touring championship not only progressed to the second position, but also protected the back of his teammate Mikhail Kozlovskiy, who became the leader. Kozlovskiy leaded the race in an excellent pace until his engine started overheating. Three laps after that Dududkalo’s Granta underwent an engine failure, and Kozlovskiy had to slow down. Nikolay Karamyshev started advancing to the leadership. Driver of a diesel SEAT made a mistake on the first lap, when he let three BMWs pass and struggled long for the second position. Two laps before the finish Kozlovskiy’s Granta seriously slowed down, thick smoke spurted out of the car’s exhaust system, and the rivals – Nikolay Karamyshev, Alexander Frolov, and Roman Golikov – seized an opportunity to spurt into the lead. In the end, young LUKOIL RACING team LADA driver got to the finish line, but outside of the prizewinners’ three.

For Karamyshev this victory became the second one in this season. Team overall victory was gained by Black & White Racing Team of Kursk.

First part of the Touring class race was held under the slogan “to catch up Kozlovskiy”. LUKOIL RACING Team LADA started powerfully and outclassed all the rivals from the very start. This spurt was only comparable to the analogous maneuver performed by his teammate Alexey Dudukalo, who started in the peloton tail. On the very first lap he outpaced all the lesser Super production class drivers and began to rush forward. Meanwhile, Nikolay Karamyshev and Alexander Frolov began to draw upon the leader. Karamyshev successfully left Kozlovskiy behind, and Frolov also managed to pull ahead, but somewhat later – during the braking before the tricky sixth curve. Frolov decided to catch up Karamyshev, and Kozlovskiy continued his fight against the equipment and finished the race in ninth position. As for Frolov, he failed to catch up Karamyshev and contented himself with the second position. Team overall victory was gained by Black & White Racing Team.
